Philadelphia School District Underreports, Downplays Crime

Hurry, everyone act surprised. As the city’s struggles with violence and education issues continue, a recently publicized report indicates that Philly’s education system has a violence problem. The Blue Ribbon Commission released a 41-page report at last night’s SRC meeting that details the Philadelphia School District’s failure to report all crime and the tendency for incidents to be downplayed at certain schools. So, in a city with a reputation for violence and a lack of cooperation with authorities in the wake of violent incidents, the public school district has a crime problem and hasn’t fully disclosed violent incidents? Weird.  [Inquirer]
