Pulse: 60-Second Critic: Please Touch Museum

Conceptually, the Please Touch Museum’s new home at Memorial Hall is a fascinating meeting of future and past: Philly’s next generation learning and playing at one of the city’s most storied buildings (the hall dates to the massive 1876 Centennial Exhibition, a cool diorama of which is on display on the ground floor). But is it any fun? As Sarah Palin might say, you betcha. The new space allows elbow room for six exhibit zones and several dazzling attractions, including a restored century-old carousel and a giant Leo Sewell-designed tower of toys. Still, the best displays may be old standbys like the miniature supermarket and the SEPTA bus — another nice blend of future and past. Grade: A
