Politics and satire go together like … blue states and other blue states? John McCain and straight talk? You get the idea, anyway: Republicans and Democrats may rarely see eye to eye, but if there’s anything mutually agreed upon, it’s that politics is rife with mock-ability. And with next year’s presidential election shaping up to be just as civilized and smear-free as ever (which is to say, not at all), local theater troupe 1812 Productions is banking its holiday season on This Is The Week That Is: Political Humor for the Holidays, a variety show that uses sketches and songs to take on big egos, stump speeches and local politicos. To keep up with current events, some portions of the show will be rewritten from performance to performance, giving Philly its own version of The Daily Show. The play runs through January 13, bringing us — phew! — right into the heart of primary season. See website for showtimes.
