Making Sense Of the Eagles Inactives
The following Eagles are inactive for tonight’s game against the Giants: QB Matt Barkley, OL Jason Kelce, OL Dennis Kelly, LB Mychal Kendricks and DL Taylor Hart, RB Chris Polk and WR Brad Smith.
DeMeco Ryans (groin) was questionable on Friday’s injury report, but he’s active.
The Eagles’ special teams have been the best in the NFL, but they’ll be without two key guys in Polk (hamstring) and Smith (groin).
Josh Huff is active for the second straight week. And Jeff Maehl returns to the gameday roster with Smith sidelined. Cornerback Jaylen Watkins is active, a change from last week.
Matt Tobin gets the start for the third consecutive week at left guard. The offensive line from left to right is: Jason Peters, Tobin, David Molk, Todd Herremans and Lane Johnson.
The Eagles are still without Kelce (sports hernia) and Evan Mathis (knee). The two backup linemen tonight are Andrew Gardner (tackle) and Wade Smith (guard/center).
With Kendricks still sidelined, look for Casey Matthews, Emmanuel Acho and Marcus Smith II to combine to replace him at inside linebacker once again.
The Eagles only have two running backs active: LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles. Tight end Trey Burton could fill in in emergency situations. The Eagles have five wide receivers active: Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews, Maehl and Huff. All four tight ends – Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, James Casey, Burton – will dress.
For the Giants, two players who were questionable – defensive lineman Robert Ayers and LB Jon Beason – are both active.
