His first day back at practice, and Lane Johnson is already running with the ones.

Johnson returned from his four-game suspension on Monday and joined his teammates on the practice field early Tuesday afternoon. During the portion open to the media, Johnson was at right tackle with the first team. The unit looked like this (from left to right): Jason Peters, Matt Tobin, David Molk, Todd Herremans, Johnson. That’s an improvement from Sunday assuming Johnson, who is said to have come back in very good shape, can re-acclimate quickly.

“There is going to be some getting-used-to-football again but I think he’s done a good job at least from what I’ve heard and what he’s told us, that he’s ready to go,” said Shurmur.

“We were a little bit unsettled at quarterback for a certain part of the year. This year we’ve been a little unsettled at offensive line. And the guys that have been in there playing having contributed to three victories and one loss. Now we’re starting to get some guys back, the  first of course being Lane.”

Evan Mathis (MCL) and Jason Kelce (sports hernia) are still several weeks away.

Jeremy Maclin did not suit up for Tuesday’s practice. He completed the game against the Niners and there was no talk of him being injured afterwards, but he was a spectator at today’s session. Same for James Casey.

Brandon Boykin (hamstring) was also sidelined. Mychal Kendricks (calf) participated in some of the pre-practice exercises but was wearing a baseball cap while doing so. He seems to be making progress but is a question mark for Sunday’s game against the Rams.
