If you’ve been lucky enough to book a shore stay this summer, there are plenty of opportunities to move your body that don’t involve running miles on the sand (though, there’s nothing stopping you from doing that, too). Whether you prefer to be in a studio or outside, there are classes for every type of fitness buff.

Avalon

Avalon Fitness
Avalon Fitness boasts a bi-level space, with a gym on the first level (complete with strength training and cardio equipment) and studio classes like cycling, barre, HIIT, and yoga upstairs. It also features an outdoor turf area so you can train in the open air, and there’s $20 beach yoga at 30th Street starting Memorial Day Weekend. 3206 Dune Drive, Avalon

Avalon Surf Camp
From paddling to balancing on the board, you can get a full-body cardiovascular workout, thanks to Avalon Surf Camp. The group offers private and semi-private lessons and camps led by instructors with years of experience surfing around the world. Classes are offered for adults and kids. 12th Street Beach, Avalon

The Coastal Yoga Collective
The Coastal Yoga Collective operates as a wellness concierge, offering custom private and group yoga, beach yoga, meditation, Reiki, and feng shui consultations throughout Avalon. All services are appointment-only and can be requested here.

Ship Shape Health & Fitness
Ship Shape’s Avalon boot camps are sure to get your heart pumping. The 60-minute group classes take place on the courts at 9th Street Recreation Center at 8 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, at 9 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and at 8 a.m. on Thursdays through Labor Day. Sol Luna Yoga

The Private Room
Opened in July of 2021, The Private Room features two megaformers for a super intimate Pilates sesh from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. Yoga teacher Theresa Morrone will be hosting sun-down yoga at 15th Street Beach (south) on Thursdays at 7 p.m. She’s also looking to host consistent classes at 8 a.m. on Saturdays, with select Sundays. Balance Cape May

This yoga studio right near Congress Hall runs daily classes, including slow flow, yoga sculpt, practice on the beach, and all-levels vinyasa. Don’t let the name fool you. This Margate-based fitness studio offers more than just Bikram-style and beach yoga. OMM Yoga Studio
This Philly-based yoga group has a Shore pop-up location in Ventnor. This year’s details are still forthcoming, but OMM’s 45-minute practice down the Shore has typically taken place behind the Ventnor Public Library on weekend mornings starting Memorial Day. Yoga Ginger offers classes for everybody in the heated studio and on the beach, including slow flow, yoga sculpt, stretch classes, and mommy and baby yoga. NJ Beach Yoga
You never have to worry about not having a spot in class when it takes place on the beach, and all of NJ’s classes are held on JFK Boulevard Beach and 5th Street Beach. Their outdoor yoga — which takes place every day except Thursday and Sunday — is good for adults and kids, but just make sure you register ahead online. Stride Spin and Fitness

Owner Kate Connelly is hosting her fitness boutique’s first Together Shore Tour with a class at Icona Diamond Beach.
