The boutique fitness trend is about to get some big-gym competition around these parts: Life Time, the health club chain known for its giant, luxurious, could-spend-all-day-there-with-no-regrets fitness clubs, is slated to open three new Philly-area locations before the year ends. And if their first area location — the 102,000-square-foot Mount Laurel fitness club that opened in October of 2015 — is any indication, the new spots will be pretty darn spectacular.

So, where exactly will these Life Time locations be, you ask? Well, there’s the King of Prussia club, a 127,000-square-foot location at 750 Swedesford Road (technically in Wayne) that feature all the club’s usual fitness fixings — think: your typical gym equipment, group class studios, fancy-shmancy locker rooms complete with complimentary towels, dry and steam saunas, and more. Then, it’ll also come complete with four squash courts and a giant — as in 45,000-square-feet giant — outdoor pool deck (they’re known for their waterslides), “creating the ultimate resort experience,” according to a press release. If all goes according to plan, Life Time King of Prussia will be opening sometime this summer, but nosy folks should know that the preview center is already open.

Then there’s Life Time’s Ardmore location at Suburban Square, a 70,000-square-foot club they’ve dubbed their flagship Philly-area location. The club, going into the old Macy’s building, won’t have an outdoor pool deck (insert tears here), but according to a press release, folks can expect “exceptional boutique programming, specialized studios and premium amenities, services and entertainment.” The Suburban Square location’s targeting opening is scheduled for late 2017.

Then, there’s the Fort Washington location, coming to us the soonest, with a target opening of spring 2017: This bad boy will boast 115,000-square-feet of indoor fitness fun, along with a 50,000-square-foot outdoor pool deck. The preview center for this location, at 375 Commerce Drive, is open as well.

Oh, and did we mention that Life Time Fitness locations also come with LifeSpa — with services catering to the athletically inclined, the website says — and LifeCafe, a healthy cafe that boasts items kale veggie burgers and fish tacos? Because they do.

Sooooo, what’s the membership fee, you ask? Membership fees range from location to location and can’t be found online, but according to the folks over at Savvy Main Line, who checked out the KOP preview center, you’re looking at shelling out around $120 a month for a single person, and up from there for couples and families.

Now who wants to start scoping out giant abandoned buildings around Center City where Life Time can set up shop? I’m thinking us city dwellers deserve some waterslides, too.
