5 Awesome Free Fitness Events to Have on Your Calendar This Week
Another week, another handful of free fitness events happening around town. Since you guys seemed to like our last impromptu roundup of free fitness events a few weeks ago, we figured we’d do it again. From a group run to a grown-up pillow fight (really), there’s a little something for everyone. Check ‘em out below.
1. Group Run and Happy Hour with Jen A. Miller
When: Thursday, March 31st at 6 p.m.
Where: Philadelphia Runner, 1601 Sansom Street, Center City.
This Thursday, Philadelphia Runner is hosting a three- to five-mile group run with Jen A. Miller, the local author behind Running: A Love Story, which just hit shelves today. The run will end with a Q&A with Miller and beer, she tells us. Running, beer, books — what more could you ask for on a Thursday evening?
2. Fireside Camp Supply Closing Party
When: Friday, April 1st at 6 p.m.
Where: Fireside Camp Supply, 2207 South Street, Grad Hospital.
The sad news: Fireside Camp Supply is closing their storefront. The good news: They’re keeping the business going as a delivery-only operation, so you’ll still be able to rent camp gear from them. Phew. And more good news: They’re closing the store down with one last First Friday filled with free s’mores and beer — plus 50 percent off the entire store. Perfect timing, seeing as camping season is right around the corner, eh?
3. Free Yoga at Heart Beet Kitchen
When: Saturday, April 2nd at 9 a.m.
Where: Heart Beet Kitchen, 29 Haddon Avenue, Westmont.
This is one to have on your calendar for the next few months, actually: Starting this weekend and going through the month of May, Lululemon Cherry Hill will be hosting free BYO-mat yoga classes at Heart Beet Kitchen. This weekend’s class just so happens to kick off the vegan and gluten-free cafe’s grand opening, another free event worth going to — so count this as a double whammy.
4. Philly Pillow Phight 2016
When: Saturday, April 2nd at 3 p.m.
Where: Washington Square Park
We’re going to go ahead and call this giant pillow fight a fitness-related event because nothing works your obliques quite like twisting and turning a pillow while acting like a six-year-old, right? Note: The pillow fight is BYOP, and only soft pillows allowed.
5. Free Boot Camp with Core Fitness
When: Sunday, April 3rd at 9 a.m.
Where: Art Museum Steps
The folks from CoreFitness are teaming up with the Big Climb Philly, a steep stair climb going down at the Comcast Center on April 23rd, for a free all-levels boot camp at the Art Museum Steps. I’m going to go ahead and say you should probably expect some stair exercises. They’ll also be taking donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
