The Skinny on Healthy Eating

Yes, you already know that healthy eating affects just about everything from looking good to feeling even better. But how can you be sure that you’re making the smartest daily diet decisions? Find out on Saturday, June 7, when Independence Blue Cross and Philadelphia magazine team up for the annual Be Well Philly Boot Camp. In addition to bringing in a bevy of nutritionists, chefs and other experts to answer your questions, there will also be a ton of cool fitness classes scheduled throughout the day, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sweat, too.

For starters, cooking demos will teach how a few simple culinary changes can have a profound impact on your quality of life. (Think: How can you build a better breakfast?) Plus, on-site nutritionists will unveil the latest in industry trends from protein-packed “clean eating” to the facts behind veggie and fruit juicing. Finally, featured authors will share foodie tips and bits of advice in the Speakers’ Lounge like Jolene Hart, who penned Eat Pretty: Nutrition for Beauty, Inside and Out, and Jessica Procini, who dismantles the mind games of dieting in her book Laugh Yourself Skinny.

Meanwhile, Boot Camp attendees can fuel up for the day’s full itinerary of fitness classes with the help of healthy on-site foods and beverages. In addition to trying out tasty treats and snacks from a variety of wellness-focused vendors, expect a hearty breakfast from Pure Fare followed by a delish vegetarian lunch by HipCityVeg. (These two meals alone are worth the price of admission!)

Start your nutrition mission today by signing up for Be Well Philly Boot Camp: An Inspirational Health and Wellness Event for Women at the Drexel Recreation Center on Saturday, June 7 from 9 am to 2 pm. Registration fee is $35 and a portion of all proceeds will benefit Back on My Feet charity.
