Slideshow: A Preview of Isaiah Zagar’s “77”

The exhibition of self-portraits by the city’s beloved mosaic artist opens this week at Paradigm Gallery.

In “77: an exhibition of self-portraits by Isaiah Zagar,” the renowned artist whose mosaics adorn so many city edifices displays works in other mediums — including Chinese brush paintings. Zagar is 77, hence the title, and some pieces in the show date back to the ’60s. The creator of South Street’s Magic Gardens has always said his work was influenced by the places he’s lived, like Peru and China, and that certainly seems evident here.
