Bill Murray Misses Emmys to Party in Philly All Weekend

The legendary comedian was in town to celebrate the wedding of his son.

It wasn’t Groundhog Day, but Bill Murray was popping up all over the place in Philadelphia this weekend. On PhillyChitChat.com, photographer HughE Dillon reports that he was in town to celebrate the wedding of his son, Xavier University Assistant Coach Luke Murray, to South Philly native Kara Cassidy.

The sightings began on Friday night, when locals starting tweeting that they were seeing Murray in the Rittenhouse Square area and then at Oscar’s Tavern at around 1 am Saturday morning.

On Saturday, Dillon says, he attended his son and future daughter-in-law’s rehearsal dinner at Acorn Club. The actual wedding was held on Sunday at the Bellevue. “I hear Bill was very generous with gifts for the wedding couple, helping out with the most beautiful wedding to hit the Bellevue since Sabrina Tamburino Thorne’s,” Dillon wrote. “He also paid for all the groomsman’s tuxes and rented out the 27th floor at the Bellevue Hyatt for bridal party preparations and rooms for the guests to stay.”

Entertainment at the wedding was provided by New York’s Chevis Entertainment. “At one point Bill Murray jumped up on stage and rocked out with the band. One guest told me it was the best band she’d ever heard, and the Murrays really know how to party,” wrote Dillon.

Last night, several people on Twitter pointed out the fact that Bill Murray wasn’t at the Emmys last night to accept the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in HBO’s Olive Kitteridge, because he was partying it up in Philly.
