Fun with Family, Friends, or Lovers in DC
If you’re starting to feel cooped up from the incessant snowstorms that have been hitting our region lately, maybe it’s time to schedule a road trip down to Washington, DC. Whether you grab your guy, gal, the family, or even a friend or two, the nation’s capital has something for everyone.
Here are a few fun ideas that are definitely worth digging your car out of the snow to make the trek to DC:
For Family Fun: With the “Where the Wild Things Are” itinerary, you and the kids can learn about wild animals of the past and present at the National Museum of Natural History, then tweens can see how Peter Pan became the boy who never grew up while watching the production of Peter and the Starcatcher at the JFK Center for the Performing Arts. If you’re planning to stay the night, Hotel Palomar provides animal print robes that are always a hit with the kids.
For Fun with Friends: Head on down to 14th Street and grab a table on Le Diplomate’s heated patio where you can wash down cheese and baguettes with something off their curated wine list. If that sounds too upper crust for your taste, check out Black Whiskey to shoot pool, listen to music, and of course, drink whiskey. If your group can’t collectively agree on where to grab food, hit up Barcelona for their huge list of tapas guaranteed to please everyone’s appetite.
For a Good Time with Your Guy or Gal: Start your day with some shopping at the variety of stores down Connecticut Ave, then head to Restaurant Nora for an intimate dinner of seasonal organic cuisine inside this 19th-century carriage house. The Dupont Circle Hotel offers balcony suites that overlook all the action of Dupont Circle and is just minutes the farmer’s market on Sunday morning.
