Aside from its bon vivant owners, one of the primary reasons we fell so hard for Maximalist Studios, a beautiful new blank canvas wedding and event space in Norristown, was because it had what the city had been lacking: a large, white-walled, blank canvas wedding and event space ready to take on any type of vibe you could want and accommodate a healthy amount of guests. Today, we’re excited to show off Location 215 because it offers the same key amenities – but, this time, it’s in the heart of Philly.

Located in Market East at 990 Spring Garden, Location 215 is a hybrid photo studio and wedding and event space that boasts 15-foot ceilings and all-white walls. Originally drawn by celebrated architecture firm Rankin & Kellogg, who helped draw the original Inquirer building, 990 Spring Garden was first home to the Philadelphia Wholesale Drug Company. These days, it houses several creative offices, and Location 215 spans the back half of the entire ground floor, with two art-gallery-esque spaces opening up off the building’s main lobby hallway.

Opened in late March, Location 215 is the brainchild of owners Jennifer Blauvelt and Nicole Poulin. Blauvelt and Poulin have worked as art buyers and producers, so they’ve planned their conjoining spaces with the necessary details (holding areas, a built-in sound system, easy load-in via a garage door from the adjoining parking lot) to make your celebration both seamless to pull off and completely photo-worthy.

Location 215 screams “dress me up” as you walk up the colorful stairs, painted by Philadelphia Mural Arts. The space also includes concrete floors and a white marble built-in bar. Overall, the vibe is clean, modern and sleek with plenty of room for creativity. Blauvelt and Poulin stress that whatever couples can dream up, they can make a reality.

Their main space, the East Studio, houses the bar, a load-in bay with a retractable garage door, and 3,600 square feet of event space grounded with a concrete floor. It can hold up to 300 people.

The West Studio has 2,500 square feet of event space, can hold 150 people, and has a full back of house kitchen.

The East Studio will run you $4,000 for an 8-hour rental on a Saturday. On Fridays and Sundays, it starts at $3,000. The West Studio starts at $3,000 on a Saturday, and $2,000 on a Friday or Sunday. If you want to make use of both studios (say, for both a ceremony and reception), a full buy-out on Saturday starts at $7,500, runs $6,000 for Fridays and Sundays, and includes, among other amenities, tables and chairs for up to 100 guests.

Located between the two studios, the lobby of Location 215 is a 1,500-square-foot art gallery, which is perfect for a cocktail hour. Blauvelt and Poulin rotate the art, showcasing local artists, every five to six months.
