This Colorful City Wedding Proves the Ombré Trend Isn’t Dead

Long live ombré!

Despite it’s grand population, Philly can actually feel like a small town more often than not. Just ask Jaime Orent and Jonathan Kriner, who found themselves falling in love in Philly — despite having grown up a mere 15 minutes apart in Cincinnati, Ohio. The pair married in a colorful ceremony and reception at Sky Philadelphia, where blues and golds — a nod to their “Our Love was Written in the Stars” wedding theme — paired with fun accent colors to create a bright and cheery celebration. Redfield Photography was there to capture the magic.

Jamie and Jonathan’s lives intertwined long before they got together.  They grew up very close to each other in Cincinnati, and traveled to Israel together in high school, but never talked or had an inkling of  what the future would hold for them. In 2013, Jaime landed in Philly, where Jonathon had been since college. They connected on LinkedIn thanks to a geo-tagging feature,  and Jonathan reached out for a date. Jamie wound up breaking the date to attend an event, only to find Jonathan there, too.

After the happy coincidence of their accidental run-in, Jaime and Jonathan met up properly for their first official date at Sampan. Jonathan’s roommate worked at the restaurant at the time, and kept the food and drink coming long enough to sustain a three-plus hour meal.  Jonathan walked Jaime home, and they shared their first kiss that night in Rittenhouse Square.

After dating for three years, Jonathan gifted Jaime concert tickets to see Beyonce at the Wells Fargo Center for her birthday. After the show, they planned to meet Jonathan’s brother at Smith’s in Rittenhouse, but Jonathan had another agenda for the evening as well. As they walked through Rittenhouse Square — the site of their first kiss — on the way to the restaurant, he dropped to one knee and asked Jaime to marry him.

Just shy of a year later, on September 2, 2017, the pair exchanged vows in a colorful yet traditional wedding overlooking all of Philly at Sky Philadelphia. Personal touches were everywhere. Jaime’s mom’s wedding dress was made into a tablecloth for underneath the chuppah, the “Drunk in Love” cocktail napkins referenced the Beyonce concert from the night of their engagement, and pictures from their grandparents’ and parents’ weddings adorned the welcome tables.

Consistent with their celestial wedding theme, shades of blue and gold ran throughout their wedding decor. Ombre pinks and oranges dominated the floral arrangements, signage and ceremony confetti in an effort to mimic the sunset.

The couple cut into a Funfetti cake while guests sipped on Manhattans and French 75s, and swayed to Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” for their first dance. They later honeymooned in Cambodia, Hong Kong, and Thailand. They currently live in New York City, where she works in sales and he works in marketing.
