VIDEO: Here’s One Reason Why Wedding Rings are Worn on That Finger

Up until today, the only story I had ever heard about why wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand came from a Roman belief that a vein in that finger—aptly called the “Vena Amoris” or “Vein of Love”—is directly connected to the heart. Whether or not it’s true is anyone’s guess, but as I learned this morning, it’s just one of many theories as to how the ring finger got its name.

Here’s another explanation: The hand movements demonstrated in the video below are based on the Chinese belief that the bond of marriage is the strongest and most important of all. Go ahead and try the exercise for yourself; it’s definitely a sweet way of explaining a tradition that we continue to observe to this day.
