The couple: Rachel Sanceciz and Justin Rothman, from Philadelphia.
The ring: My ring has a pear-shaped diamond in a custom white-gold setting with a halo.
The center diamond is a family heirloom that was given to us by my fiancé’s mother. When she offered it to us last year, I couldn’t believe it! Justin then worked with B&E Jewelers in Southampton to design a custom setting for the stone (I think Pinterest helped him a little bit along the way). I still can’t get over how beautiful my ring is. It’s absolutely perfect.
The proposal: The proposal happened the day after our three-year anniversary, because I had totally not picked up on the hints to not work on the actual day.
We were at Bowman’s Tower in New Hope, and Justin had made a photo album for me. On the last page, it said, “Will you marry me?”—and when I saw him getting down on one knee, I dropped the book and said something that shouldn’t be repeated! I was totally taken off guard and surprised because I didn’t expect it to happen that day—I thought I had figured out his plans to do it the following weekend at the shore!
During the proposal, I heard a commotion in the background that turned out to be my best friend taking pictures of us—and someone yelling at her for doing that seemingly without our permission. It was a funny moment to add to the day. She ended up getting beautiful pictures, though, and I was so happy she was there! After, he planned dinner with all of our friends and family at a local restaurant, La Stalla in Newtown.
The band: I think I want an eternity band with a similar look to the band on my engagement ring. And on our first anniversary, I’d love a second band so I have one on both sides!
