A chunk of a seven-story mural in Center City collapsed and crushed two parked cars this morning as a nor’easter brought high wind and rain to the region.
No injuries were reported in the collapse of the mural, which is titled “Independence Starts Here” and is located near Broad and Race streets, above Hahnemann University Hospital’s Feinstein parking lot.

The mural was commissioned by Mural Arts and installed by Donald Gensler between 2006 and 2008.
Philly is home to more than 3,800 murals – and about 1,000 of those murals likely need maintenance attention, according to the Inquirer.
