Why the Heck Was Katie McGinty at the Home of Trump Surrogate Erin Elmore?

One word: Money.

On Tuesday morning, Donald Trump surrogate and former Apprentice contestant Erin Elmore went on Fox Business to talk deplorables and pneumonia, but the night before, she was performing for a much different audience: Democratic fundraisers.

Elmore’s husband, entrepreneur Craig Spitzer, hosted a Monday night fundraiser for U.S. Senate candidate Katie McGinty at the couple’s luxurious Rittenhouse Square pad on 23rd Street.

McGinty’s battle against incumbent Pat Toomey is among the most contentious and expensive Senate races in the country.

“My son and I were visiting my parents in Florida,” says Elmore. “So I walked in at five and the party started at six. I was in a rush!”

In addition to Mayor Jim Kenney and McGinty, both of whom spoke, the crowd included Ed Rendell, Carl Dranoff, and around 45 other guests, according to Elmore. No word on how much the event raised for McGinty, but entry to the affair cost anywhere from $250 to $5,400, which got you drinks and… wraps?

“If you spend all the money on caviar, there’s nothing left for the candidate,” laughs Elmore, who adds that whenever people clapped for one of the speakers, her 3-year-old son Royce would come running into the room, thinking the applause was for him. “My son is a charmer. He stole the show. We had a bartender and great food, and I told people the only thing I forgot was a babysitter.”

Elmore says that while she’s a staunch supporter of Republican nominee Trump, that doesn’t mean that she’s on Toomey’s side.

“I’ve always loved her,” insists Elmore of McGinty. “She’s an amazing woman. At the end of the day, I support Katie. Pat Toomey never endorsed Donald Trump, so what does that say about him?”
