2016 DNC, Day 1: What to Expect Today
It’s here, whether we’re ready or not.
Here’s what to expect during day one of the 2016 DNC today, whether you plan to trek to the Wells Fargo Center and attend the convention or watch it unfold from another location.
Speakers:
Today’s session officially begins at 4 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center, with speech topics like substance abuse, immigration and deportation, and intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Highlighted speakers include First Lady Michelle Obama and Vermont senator and erstwhile presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, as well as Elizabeth Warren and immigration advocate Astrid Silva.
In the News:
Debbie Wasserman Schultz will step down from her position as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee after WikiLeaks released a set of controversial emails in which she and other committee members clearly sided with Clinton over Sanders during the primaries. It’s not particularly surprising.
In a New York Times commentary piece, novelist Jennifer Weiner says Philly is “Hillary’s kind of town.”

Last night’s protests, which remained peaceful, included themes of anti-fracking and “Bernie or Bust,” as well as the rather entertaining concept of “Demorats.”
