The Best Thing That Happened This Week

The Phillies' youth movement shone.

Okay, the smallest crowd in the history of Citizens Bank Park was there to see it. But the Phils’ cold, rainy 3-0 shutout on Thursday was the team’s fourth straight win, for a series sweep of the playoff-bound Mets. And it came on the heels of Wednesday night’s thriller, in which the Phils fought back from a 5-0 first-inning deficit to a 7-5 win. Rookie pitcher Jerad Eickhoff threw Thursday’s corker, going seven scoreless innings and striking out 10. His isn’t the only name we’re still getting used to seeing on the back of a jersey; members of the Phils’ 25-and-under club include Aaron Nola, Maikel Franco, César Hernández, Adam Morgan, Darnell Sweeney, Odubel Herrera, Alec Asher, Elvis Araujo, Aaron Altherr, Freddy Galvis, Cody Asche, Colton Murray and Ken Giles. For the first time in a long time, we’re stoked for next season. Go, team!
