[Update 12:37 p.m.] Nope, it wasn’t them.

NBC 10 reports:

A cabdriver’s suspicion that two early morning passengers were the convicted killers who escaped from a New York prison earlier was wrong, according to a Philadelphia police source.

Police made that determination after reviewing surveillance video with the cabdriver Thursday morning.

[Original] Attention! America’s most notorious prison escapees may well be in Philadelphia!

But, you know: Probably not.

NBC 10 reports a Philly cab driver has told police he picked up Richard Matt and David Sweat early this morning and dropped them off at 30th Street Station. The convicted killers escaped from a New York prison earlier this week.

Police, however, are skeptical. “In a text to NBC10, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said there have been several reported sightings of the suspects in different cities, and he has no reason to believe they are in Philadelphia.”

The prison they escaped from is 400 miles from Philadelphia — and just 20 miles from the Canadian border.
