PHOTOS: A Very Gay Prom at Tabu

Over the weekend more than 200 Philly LGBTers pulled out their sparkliest threads for the first-annual “A Very Tabu Prom,” hosted by Gayborhood bartender Ashley Coleman and filmmaker Jordan Fraser. Like any prom, there was dancing — with music by DJ JavaScript — a little snacking (courtesy of Thomas Day catering), and the crowning of a king and queen: Lobstar Bisque and Cal Woodruff, respectively. But what set this apart from any other run-of-the-mill prom is that this one was gay, gay, gay. As you’ll see in the photos below, there were drag queens, gay couples, lesbian couples, straight couples, gender-bending couples, the whole damn gamut. It’s what every prom should look like. I think the prom queen summed up the evening best when, during the crowning ceremony, she proclaimed, “this wiped away all of my bad prom memories.” Amen to that, sister.
