Democrats Walk Out of Kane Impeachment Hearing

Say Daryl Metcalfe isn't following proper impeachment procedure.

Rep. Daryl Metcalfe’s attempt to impeach Attorney General Kathleen Kane wasn’t expected to get far, and so far it hasn’t. Newsworks reports that Democrats walked out of a committee hearing on impeachment Tuesday.

Democrats made two attempts to put the kibosh on the meeting held by the State Government Committee. The second adjournment effort came from Rep. Mike O’Brien of Philadelphia.

A terse exchange with Chairman Daryl Metcalfe, R-Butler, followed with Metcalfe asking security to show O’Brien the door.

“Please remove Rep. O’Brien from this hearing,” said Metcalfe.

“I would like to make a motion to adjourn,” O’Brien responded, speaking over Metcalfe.

“You are not recognized,” Metcalfe insisted. “The microphone is not on for you to be recognized.” (The microphone was on.)

“That’s it. We’re out of here,” O’Brien shot back, as his Democratic colleagues rose from their seats. “Have your kangaroo court, pal.”

Democrats later said Metcalfe wasn’t following proper protocols; Metcalfe has sought Kane’s impeachment since she declined to defend state laws banning gay marriage from a court challenge
