Wharton Now Suing Everyone and Everything Called “Wharton”

Penn is suing a five-year-old Jersey firm called “Wharton Advisers Corp.” for selling “financial consulting services that are inferior to The University’s services sold under its famous ‘Wharton’ registered mark.” This just months after Wharton sued another Wharton, which seemed considerably less Wharton-y than this Wharton. According to the 2000 census, “Wharton” is the 2,912th-most popular surname in the United States. That’s just high enough to matter and just low enough for Wharton to start suing every single person born with the name Wharton for trademark infringement. [Inquirer]
