Three Dead in NJ Mass Shooting

It appears The Onion can put away this headline for yet another week: Reports say that three people—including the gunman—died in a mass shooting around 4 a.m. at a Pathmark grocery story in Old Bridge, NJ, about 70 miles northeast of Philadelphia. The shooter was an ex-Marine who had been working at the store for two weeks. “This is the worst phone call a mayor can receive,” Old Bridge mayor Owen Henry told the The Star-Ledger. “You can prepare for these things but you can’t prevent them.” The incident brings to a close a summer filled with notable shooting incidents, including last week’s shootout at the Empire State Building, the earlier attack on a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, and the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado.
