Philadelphia School District Sends Out 848 Layoff Notices
Transportation and facilities employees on the chopping block
After SEIU Local 32BJ District 1201—made up of transportation employees, building engineers, maintenance workers and cleaning staff—rejected a tentative agreement between the school district and union representatives, the Philadelphia School District sent out 848 layoff notices. The layoffs would take effect a year from now and would be a part of the “difficult decisions” the district faces after limited funding in the state budget. [FOX 29]
