Cher Defends Chaz

The diva uses Twitter to support her son's decision to join Dancing with the Stars

Following celebrity tweets is a pastime for some of us, especially when famous folks start getting honest – and angry. When Chaz Bono announced he would be joining the next season of the hit television show Dancing with the Stars (Queer Eye‘s Carson Kressley is also on the show), the jokes ensued and the anti-trans venom started bubbling up on chats and message boards all over the Internet. And that ticked off Chaz’s mom Cher who started chiming in on Twitter.

Can you picture Cher in one of her legendarily gothic homes, tapping away on a smartphone? Weird, we know. But if you don’t follow Cher, you should. Unlike a lot of celebs who use publicists to tweet for them, this sure seems like the real deal.

It should be noted that Chaz is the first transgendered person to appear on the show (which premieres Sept. 19 at 8 p.m.), while Kressley is not the first openly gay person. Lance Bass competed in Season 7, also dancing with a female partner. And dance pro Louis van Amstel is also openly gay – he was paired with Kendra Wilkinson last season.

Here’s what Cher, the mom, had to say:

“lovelies! Chaz is Being Viciously Attacked on Blogs & Message boards about being on DWTS! This is Still America right? It took guts 2 do it.”

“I support him no matter what he chooses 2do! God! will there always be haters! It took COURAGE 2 do dwts. TG Chaz has an Unlimited supply.”

“Can u guys check out sites & give him your support? BTW…Mothers don’t stop Getting angry with stupid bigots who fk with their children!”

“He is Such a Good Person inside lota heart.”

“bet VAST MAJORITY of People will LOVE CHAZ on DWTS! & it’s took Fkg Guts 2! Chaz isn’t exactly the “Gotta Dance Gotta Dance” kinda Guy.”

“I think we can agree Chaz has the biggest balls of anyone on DWTS.”
