Pulse: Chatter: Soundwaves: Radio Star
It’s been 20 years since we first heard Michaela Majoun’s voice coming to us live from Penn’s WXPN studios. Lucky for us, she’s still got plenty to say.
Who’s been your most memorable interview?
Sting insisted I inscribe a book of Rilke poems I brought for him. A few months later, he told me he read from the book every night before going to sleep!
There’s still a dearth of female DJs in Philly — why?
It’s the business, I think. It’s shocking that in this day and age, commercial radio still won’t play two songs by women back-to-back.
You’re often out late at concerts — how do you keep doing a daily early-morning show?
I’m getting younger. [She’s 61.]
Do you get requests to lend your voice for other things?
People ask if they heard my voice on New Jersey Transit. And yes, that’s me announcing “Next stop: Rah-way!”
