The 411: Crafts: DIY Destination

A signless space tucked next to Bob & Barbara’s Lounge is now home to the Sewing Shanty, a quilting and knitting store opened this summer by Penn State student Santina Marie Andretta (with help from mom Debbie, who owns another location in Selinsgrove).
A 23-year-old studio visual arts major, Andretta has sewn for most of her life; when she found herself spending much of her time in the city with like-minded crafters, she realized there was a market for a second shop.
Novices can tackle pretty sashiko sets—like embroidery paint-by-numbers—and rookies and experts alike will appreciate the range of fabrics, from solids to Star Wars prints.
