You Can Learn to Surf and Do Yoga at This One-Day Jersey Shore Beach Retreat
Yoga Habit is heading down the Shore for a day of sandy yoga, surf lessons, and fun in the sun — just don't forget your SPF!
Ever wanted to learn to surf? Do you also love to do yoga? Well, there’s a one-day beach retreat you should get in on. The folks of Fairmount’s Yoga Habit are heading to the Jersey shore in July for a day of sandy yoga, surfing lessons, and fun in the sun — and you are 100-percent invited.
On Sunday, July 22, Yoga Habit will be hosting a morning-long beach retreat in Avalon, New Jersey from 9 to 11 a.m. The yoga portion of the day begins at 9 a.m. and will run until 10:50 a.m. — broken into different sessions and led by your favorite Yoga Habit instructors.
After your muscles and joints are loosened up, you’ll take a plunge into the ocean for the 30-minute surf lessons, which start at 10 a.m. Surf instructors will teach in small groups, on a two-students-to-one-teacher ratio, so everyone can get personalized and hands-on instruction. There’s no particular order to the day, so you can do your surf lesson first or kick off the day with yoga — it’s your beach day, make it what you want!
Yoga Habit’s beach retreat is open to yogis and surfers of all levels, but the surfing portion is geared toward folks new to riding the waves. You can choose to do just the yoga, which will run you only $5, or you can choose to do just the surfing lesson for $40 — or both for $45. All proceeds from the yoga portion of the day will be donated to Surfrider, a charity devoted to keeping beaches and oceans all over the world clean.
If you’re traveling from Philly or the ‘burbs, you’ll be responsible for finding your way to Avalon; the yoga and surf lessons will be taking place on the 12th Street Beach. Surfboards and rash guards are included in the cost of the surf lesson, but you’ll want to bring your own bathing suit, towels, yoga mat, and any other equipment (or snacks!) that will make you comfortable at the beach for the day.
Yoga Habit plans to hang out at the beach for the rest of the day after the yoga and surfing, so all are welcome to join in the post-workout chill session. That said, you will have to pay the $6 beach fee if you plan to stay.
