Boutique fitness may be booming, but that doesn’t mean big-box gyms have totally lost their footing. Equinox’s (much cheaper) sister gym Blink Fitness just opened a third gym in Philly, and a huge new Life Time Fitness is coming to Ardmore soon. Meanwhile, a Connecticut-based gym chain, The Edge Fitness Clubs, has been quietly opening new locations in the greater Philadelphia area.

So far, The Edge has opened clubs in Washington Township, New Jersey and Deptford, New Jersey. They’re planning on opening a Delran, New Jersey location in late February, with a Somerton, Pennsylvania club on the docket for around June. And on Saturday, they’re celebrating the grand opening of their third area club in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

So what is The Edge Fitness Clubs? While it’s huge in Connecticut, it’s only recently started branching outside of the state. Though the clubs offer very low-cost memberships, The Edge has the amenities of much pricier gyms. The Cherry Hill location has the cardio and strength training equipment you’d see at most gyms. But in addition to that, there’s indoor turf for functional training — like throwing weighted balls against the wall — or sprints. Then there’s a smoothie bar, childcare, a women-only workout area, and a treadmill cinema — where you can watch movies while running on the treadmill — plus a sauna, massages, and tanning. Crazy, right?

But here’s the actually nuts part: 24-hour access to the fitness floor is just $10 a month. So if you’re just looking for a gym to lift some weights and do some cardio, you can spend less per month than, like, breakfast at Starbucks. For those willing to pay a little more, $20 a month gets members access to group fitness classes (like Zumba, yoga, boot camp, and Les Mills classes) and unlimited tanning and hydro-massages. For $30 a month, members get all that, plus access to spin classes and special club privileges.

Curious to check it out? You’re in luck: at the grand opening celebration on Saturday, January 20, you can visit and try out all the workouts for free. The grand opening celebration will kick off at 9 a.m., and the first 200 people in the door will score a free t-shirt.

On Saturday, Edge Kids childcare will also be free from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., during which time free fitness classes — including Zumba, yoga, strength training, spin, and more — will be running every hour. To see the full schedule of grand opening classes, check out the Facebook event, then book your spot by emailing the address provided.

The Edge Fitness Clubs is now open in Cherry Hill at 2139 NJ-38, Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
