#RuntoWorkPHL: Where to Find Running Groups for Run to Work Day

And more about that pre-work Run to Work Day party.

Philly’s second annual Run to Work Day is coming up this Friday, folks, and we are beyond amped.

Just a quick heads up that there will be a few running groups gathering Friday morning that are open to anyone who wants to hoof it to work en masse. The Run to Work Day team (oh, how official we sound!), along with some pals, will be leading four all-levels-welcome groups from various starting points around the city. We’ll be leaving from each of these spots at 7:30 on Friday morning, to give everyone enough time to hang at our pre-work Run to Work Day Party (more on that in a second), then clean up and change before heading to the office at 9.

All groups will be running toward Center City and ending at Philadelphia Runner at 16th and Sansom. The shop will be opening extra early to host Run to Work Day run-commuters. We’ll have breakfast for you — coffee, of course, plus water and breakfast bars courtesy of Trader Joes, squeezes from Mamma Chia, drinks from Bai5 and veggie chips from Real Deal Snacks — and some fun swag. The Juice Philly will also set up shop with free juice samples. Note: Anyone can stop by the party, even if you don’t run with one of the running groups. It’s free and open to all!

The map below shows you where the four groups will meet up, but here are the locations and cross streets for your reference, as well as the name of each group leader. And as a reminder, all four of these groups will leave around 7:30 a.m.

South Philly Group: Meet at Singing Fountain at Tasker and East Passyunk Avenue. The group leader is me, Emily Leaman.

Northern Liberties/Fishtown Group: Meet at the Piazza at Schmidt’s. Group leader will be Jon Lyons of Run 215.

Fairmount/Lloyd Hall Group: Meet in front of Lloyd Hall along Boathouse Row. Group leader will be the fabulous Suzanne Allaire from the November Project. (By the way, if you’re feeling extra ambitious, meet up with Suzanne and the November Project crew at Lemon Hill at 6:25 a.m. get in a tough hill workout before you run to the office.) But you’ll be able to recognize them from the Philadelphia Runner shirt they’ll be wearing.

West Philly Group: Meet at Philadelphia Runner University City, 3621 Walnut Street. Liz Pagonis from PR will lead the way.

Those are the four official running groups, but if you’d like to man a pop-up group in your neighborhood (the ‘burbs are welcome, too!), email me or leave a comment below and we’ll add you to the map. Just let me know what time you want to start, and where your end point will be.

Let’s do this, you guys!
