Free Outdoor Yoga in Philly: Yoga on the Banks 2015 Schedule Announced

Yoga on the Banks

Yoga on the Banks

Hallelujah, spring has arrived — am I right? If you need solid proof (because, you know, it’s still pretty darn cold out there), I give you this: news of the arrival of this year’s Yoga on the Banks outdoor yoga series, set to return to the Schuylkill Banks on April 18th.

New this year is an official (and pretty!) Yoga on the Banks website, where you can get all the info on the where’s, what’s and how’s. Organizers, a collabo of four local yogis, will offer four weekly sessions this spring and summer: Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon; Sundays from 11 a.m. to noon; Tuesdays from 7 to 8 a.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The classes will take place on the grassy area near 25th and Locust in the Schuylkill Banks park.

Yoga on the Banks will launch one week after its sister series, Yoga on the Pier, which, as we reported earlier, will begin offering free outdoor classes at Race Street Pier on April 11th.

On April 23rd at 7 p.m., organizers of both series will come together for a season-opener party and fundraiser at The Plow & The Stars (2nd and Chestnut streets), complete with drink and food specials, a live DJ, raffle prizes and a silent auction. Funds raised will support the yoga series’ sound systems (so everyone can hear the instructors) and extra aides for the larger classes, live music during classes and more. There is a $10 suggested donation for the party.

Yoga on the Banks is an all-levels, donation-based yoga series with no set fee or suggested price. Participants are encouraged to give whatever they wish; donations support the program’s teachers and assistants, insurance costs, and the administration of the program.

Stay up to date with weather-related and other announcements at the Yoga on the Banks Facebook group. Be sure to bring your own mat.
