Zumba for a Good Cause!
If you’re one of the Philly peeps constantly updating your Facebook profile with something similar to “Heading to Zumba!” or “Wish I could Zumba every day!” you should know that pounding the pavement on weekend walks and runs isn’t the only way to raise money for breast cancer research and show support for the millions of inspiring survivors.
Throughout the month of October, you can Zumba your heart out to raise funds for Susan G. Komen for a Cure. More than 600 Zumbathons will be held across 47 states and a few are already planned in our area.
And if you haven’t tried the calorie-burning workout that feels more dance party than fitness class, now’s the perfect time since you’ll be raising money for a great cause. “You feel like you just left a nightclub at 6 p.m.” says Natella Tetruashvili, a soon-to-be Zumbathon host and part time Zumba instructor at Fountain of Yoga, 9259 Roosevelt Blvd, 2nd floor Rear Plaza, SubVersion Fitness, 400 North Church Street, Suite 115 B, Moorestown, New Jersey, and World Gym, 11000 Roosevelt Blvd #19. “The dancing, the energy, the fun … you’ll never get that on a treadmill.”
Tetruashvili fell in love with the Zumba Fitness Program while at school in Miami, and has since become a Zumba addict and instructor. When she heard about the Zumbathons last month, she knew she had to get involved. “The program really helps support cancer patients emotionally and physically,” Tetruashvili says about the survivors who’ve taken her classes. “Zumba lifts their spirits and gives them hope. You leave the class and you’re in a completely different mood.”
Tetruashvili will be hosting her first Zumbathon at the World Gym in Northeast Philadelphia on October 22, and you can find a few more area Zumbathons in our list below. (Want to host your own event? Go here for more info.)
