Eagles Notes: Eric Rowe Trade Conditions

The Eagles confirmed the Eric Rowe trade this morning, but they didn’t specify what conditions need to be met in order for the Patriots’ 2018 fourth-round pick to turn into a third-round pick. But now we know.

According to  PhillyVoice’s Jimmy Kempski, the Eagles get a third-round selection if Rowe plays at least 50 percent of the Patriots’ defensive snaps in 2016 or 2017. Malcolm Jenkins, joining a chorus of players echoing similar sentiments, said today he was surprised by the trade because Rowe was “really good” as a rookie, before joking nothing is “that surprising” after the Sam Bradford deal.

“You hate to see a teammate go, especially someone like Eric who’s played some good ball for us,” Jenkins said. “Promising young player, but he’ll have success in New England or wherever he ends up. It’s just been a competitive offseason in that DB room — a lot of guys fighting for position, new and old. Unfortunately, he was on the back end of that.”

But the Eagles may not be done yet. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, who wrote a couple of weeks ago to keep an eye on Howie Roseman for some upcoming trades, the Birds are still searching for additional deals.

“Few teams, if any, have worked the phones as hard as Philadelphia this summer. They still aren’t done,” La Canfora wrote. “Roster shuffling is ongoing and with the trade deadline still months away, I wouldn’t rule out another significant swap or two — especially since this Eagles team is not going to be very good. Chip Kelly’s draft picks/signings/busts are dwindling, but the ones left shouldn’t get too comfortable.”
