7 Shows to See in Philly This Week

Monday: Glass Animals ($20)
This indie-rock band based out of Oxford, England, just released their debut album, Zaba, last year, but already had two hit singles make Billboard's Top Alternative songs list. This quirky male quartet is currently on tour throughout the U.S. and Europe to promote their album. Listen before you go: "Gooey." Tuesday: Phish ($45-65)
Legendary rock band Phish have developed an extremely loyal fan base since their debut in 1983. After performing together for nearly 20 years, the band went on a brief hiatus in 2004 before reuniting in 2009 and continuing to perform ever since. The foursome is known for their blending of musical genres, extended plays and dedicated fan base. Throughout their career, they've released 12 studio albums and spanned a wide variety of musical genres, including funk, folk, jazz, blues, psychedelic rock and hard rock. Wednesday: Expert Alterations ($10)
Founded in 2013, this Baltimore-based trio signed with Slumberland Records and released their debut album of the same name. The indie-pop group has since released an EP in 2014 and is currently playing at venues across the East Coast. Listen before you go: "A Bell." Thursday: Billy Joel ($50-100)
As the sixth best-selling record artist and the third best-selling solo artist in the country, audiences can always expect Billy Joel to put on a good show. Since the release of his first hit single, "Piano Man ," in 1973, Joel has released 13 studio albums, sold more than 150 million records worldwide, won six Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. As a talented singer, songwriter, composer and pianist, Joel was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013. Listen before you go: "We Didn't Start the Fire." Humming House at Tin Angel
This Nashville-based quintet creates a unique sound of folk, soul and bluegrass music with their skilled songwriting and use of acoustic instruments. Started in 2011, the band has released three albums including their most recent 2015 album, Revelries. Signed with Nashville record label Rock Ridge Music, they're currently on tour throughout the U.S. Listen before you go: "Gypsy Django." Friday, August 14, 8pm, The Tin Angel, 20 South 2nd Street.


Zac Brown Band at Citizens Bank Park
Country music superstars Zac Brown Band have been active in the country music scene since 2002. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, the band consists of seven members but is best known for frontman Zac Brown. Since signing with Southern Ground Artists label, the band has released four studio albums, two live albums, one greatest hits album and has charted sixteen singles on the Billboard country singles chart. They're currently on their Jekyll and Hyde Tour, a country-wide tour that ends in September. Listen before you go: "Chicken Fried." Sunday: Maroon 5 ($40)
Introduced in 2004, this wildly popular pop-rock band has released five studio albums to date, won three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards and four Teen Choice Awards. Fans of the Los Angeles outfit won't be disappointed: in addition to the eye candy that is frontman Adam Levine, expect a solid setlist including the band's recent chart-topping hits, as well as throwback favorites circa Songs About Jane. As if they wouldn’t elicit enough fangirl screaming on their own, Maroon 5 will be opened by heartthrob Nick Jonas and recent The Voice finalist Matt McAndrew.
