CBS announced today that Stephen Colbert will take over David Letterman’s spot on The Late Show starting September 8th—that’s a good 3-plus months after Letterman makes his official stepdown on May 20th.

Deadline reports that CBS will air reruns of its primetime shows at 11:30 p.m., and the network is in talks with Letterman about special programming leading up to his departure.

What does Colbert, who ended his time on The Colbert Report last month, have planned for the time gap?

“I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby. So first, I should find out how you make a baby.”
