E.O. Wilson: The Meaning of Human Existence
Join esteemed biologist, Harvard University professor, and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner E.O. Wilson as he discusses his latest work of nonfiction at the Central Library this Tuesday evening. Wilson has penned over 25 books bridging science and philosophy as an advocate for conservation and biodiversity. Tickets can be purchased online. Myths & Monsters
Calling all gods and mortals: Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School presents "Myths & Monsters," a live figure drawing class, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Test out your drawing skills as amazing costumes bring the mythological creatures of ancient Greece and Rome to life and inspire you to sketch. No art expertise necessary! Drawing supplies will be provided, or feel free to bring your own. The Haunting of Hill House
Catch BrainSpunk Theater's latest show, The Haunting of Hill House if you dare. The story, which follows a group of people exploring supernatural phenomena in a mysterious mansion, is based on the horror novel by Shirley Jackson. The play is an interactive experience, where the stage is not the only place you can expect a scare. Tickets can be purchased online. Wednesday, October 29th-Saturday, November 1st, all shows 7:00 p.m., $25 general admission or $15 student/seniors, Christ Church Neighborhood House, 20 N. American Street.


Sinister Cinema: Halloween at the PFS Roxy
Head to the PFS Theater at the Roxy this week to get your fill of retro horror flicks, including Dracula, House of Usher, Night of the Living Dead, Halloween, and more. Literary buffs can immerse themselves in the haunting tales of Bram Stoker and the creepy world of Edgar Allen Poe with special events (sponsored by Rosenbach of the Free Library of Philadelphia) that preface screenings. This Australian brother-sister duo specializes in bluesy acoustic vibes and will take the stage at Union Transfer this Wednesday. You've probably heard their single "Big Jet Plane," but their latest self-titled album packs a much stronger punch with tunes worth checking out. Conner Youngblood will open the gig. Third Annual Garces Foundation Gala
From Foobooz: Tickets are now on sale for Jose Garces’s third annual Garces Foundation Gala. The event is being held on Wednesday, October 29th at the Kimmel Center and raises money for education and medical care of Philadelphia immigrants. The theme of the gala is Think Local/Give Local and chef Garces has handpicked a group of local chefs to join him in highlighting Philadelphia’s culinary talent. More details here.


Tim Burton Halloween Party at Vault
Vault Brewing Company is celebrating Tim Burton this week in the best way: with themed beer & snacks, of course. They'll be serving up Burton-inspired eats, a new Coconut Robust Porter and three gourmet beer cupcakes made perfecting for pairing with their brews.
