XPoNential Music Festival
Hey, festival lovers. Some big names are coming to Susquehanna Bank Center and Wiggins Park: Beck, Ryan Adams, Band of Horses, Ingrid Michaelson, The Districts, and Jenny Lewis, just to name a few. The 2014 XPoNential Music Festival is bringing a pretty impressive lineup to two different venues in the city this weekend, with a variety of ticket options. Three-day passes (for one or both locations) are available for purchase, as well as one-day passes for those looking to catch only select acts (our artist field guide can help you choose). Kidchella
Get the flower crowns and moccasins ready for the little ones! Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse is hosting its first kids music festival, Kidchella. Kids 10 and younger, along with their adult partners in crime, are invited to rock out to live tunes from Grammy-nominated kindie artist Brady Rymer, pop-rock act The Not-Its!, and Walter Martin of The Walkmen. Guests are invited to bring a picnic, or cash for dollar tacos from Shifty's Tacos. Honest Tea will provide juice, free for the kids while supplies last. Dockside Music at Dave & Buster's
Who knew Dave & Buster's had a Dockside Bar? Take advantage of the waterfront view and some live music this Friday night. Enjoy beers, cocktails, and eats while six different bands hit the stage from 6 p.m. on. If boredom strikes, you can always mosey inside for some good old-fashioned arcade gaming. 90s-Themed Yoga Class at Yoga Garden
From Be Well Philly: Down dog and sing along to the sounds of No Doubt, Nirvana and TLC this weekend at Yoga Garden’s 90s-themed Soundtrack Saturday. This nearly two-hour long upbeat Vinyasa flow class is sure to get your spirits and your heart rate up. Click here for more.
Christmas in July at Adventure Aquarium
Already counting the days until Christmas? Get your holiday fix under-the-sea at Adventure Aquarium, which will transform into a winter wonderland this weekend for its first-ever Christmas Celebration in July. The event comes complete with twinkling lights, glowing trees, and of course, Santa, who will be making several dives into the 760,000 gallon Ocean Realm, home to giant sea turtles and a hammerhead shark. Keep an eye out for Bumble, too. The Abominable Snow Monster will make it snow right inside the aquarium. Along with the regular exhibits, there will be plenty of holiday-themed activities, plus a letter to Santa drop-off (early bird gets the best presents, right?) Philadelphia Dance Day
Get your dancing shoes ready for Philadelphia Dance Day, a full day of free dance workshops for dancers of all levels and styles. Workshops will be held at studios throughout the city, with tutorials on everything from ballet to salsa to tap and even belly-dancing. To close out the day, The Ethical Society of Philadelphia will host several nighttime workshops, plus a huge Zumba class. Pre-registration is not required, but a $2 ticket, available online, can guarantee you a spot in some of the smaller studios. A full list of studios, classes, and times is available here. Puerto Rican Day Festival
Celebrate the Puerto Rican Heritage at the 43rd Annual Puerto Rican Day Festival this Saturday. Bristol Lions Park will host a full day of cultural celebrations, featuring tons of traditional food, music, dance, and costumes. The outdoor activities will appeal to the whole family, with live entertainment and performances, dance workshops, cooking classes, and more. Guests can expect traditional Puerto Rican music throughout the day, and vendors will be onsite with delicious authentic foods. For more information about the festival, click here. Kenzinger Clambake at Johnny Brenda's
Our Frankford Ave. favorites, Johnny Brenda's and the Philadelphia Brewing Company, are hosting a summer clambake this Saturday. A special Kenzinger Shandy, along with other tasty PBC brews, will be on draft, and the special clambake menu–lobster rolls, crab cakes, fresh raw oysters, buck o' shuck clams, and crab poutine (!)–is not to be overlooked. Quizzo at The Oval
Head to the city's new summertime hotspot, The Oval, for al fresco trivia hosted by Johnny Goodtimes. Bring friends, and sit inside the beer garden or lounge on the lawn while playing pub quiz. Sharknado Screening at Campbell's Field
From News: On Saturday, the Camden Riversharks will host a screening of Sharknado after the 5:35 p.m. game against the Long Island Ducks. Appropriate! The Riversharks will also be holding "special Sharknado promotions" during the game, including "giveaways and a Sharknado t-shirt toss." The movie follows the game, fireworks, and a Kids Run the Bases promotion. Saturday, July 26th, Campbell's Field, 401 N. Delaware Ave., Camden, NJ.
40th Street Summer Series
What's not to love about a free, al fresco concert? 40th Street Summer Series is back this weekend with more unique outdoor entertainment. This Saturday, you can catch the live musical stylings of the Avalon String Band and Raphael Xavier W.O.R.X. Meets Bobby Zankel & The Warriors of the Wonderful Sound. The show will be held on the green behind the Walnut Street Free Library, with plenty of lounging space to enjoy the bands and a balmy summer evening. s-K Garage Sale of Dreams
Calling all upscale bargain hunters: stadler-Kahn, the quirky cool gift shop owned by author, illustrator, and textile designer Alexander Stadler, is hosting the ultimate garage sale this Sunday. A variety of clothing, housewares, vintage albums, stationary, and gifts will be for sale–plus old-fashioned bake sale goodies. Oh, and all the unique merch will be reasonably priced between $2-$35 (!). Get there. Sunday, July 27th, 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., 406 S. 21st Street (21st and Pine).
East Passyunk Car Show & Street Festival
East Passyunk Car Show and Street Festival, Kenzinger Clambake, the Garage Sale of Dreams, and More East Passyunk's ninth annual Car Show and Street Festival is bringing cars, tunes, and good eats to South Philly this Sunday. The car show will spotlight over 140 antique, show, muscle, and custom cars—plus trucks and motorcycles—lined up between Broad and Dickinson streets. Festival goers will enjoy live music from several bands and DJs on each block, plus street vendors, circus performers, and delicious food and drinks from an assortment of visiting food trucks. The festival is family-friendly, with tons of activities for the kids, including a free moon bounce and a craft show at the Singing Fountain. Trophies will be awarded to the best rides in a variety of categories, with registration the day of between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The fest is free for attendees, with a $15 charge for those interested in showing off a set of wheels. Sunday, July 27th, 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., East Passyunk Avenue.
