The 5 Spring Menswear Trends Every Guy Needs to Know

Fear not, fellas: We've got the lowdown on what you should be wearing this spring.

We’ve spent a lot of time running down the spring trends for women (read about it here, here and here). But fear not, fellas: We’ve got the lowdown on what you should be wearing this spring, too. Here, five wearable trends to dig into now. (So not this, or, er, this. Or ohmygod this.) Let’s get shopping.

1. Denim. (As in, break out your jean jacket.)
Jeans for guys are always in, but this spring consider pulling out — or investing in —a denim topper. Go for a more traditional denim jacket or a more tailored denim blazer in a dark blue (go for this one!). Style tip: Layer a denim jacket under a blazer for a totally dapper look.

2. The baseball cap is back.
Ditch the winter beanie for a classic cap (Dior Homme’s Kris Van Assche showed baseball caps with tuxes at his fall 2015 show). Choose one in a neutral color — these are sporty in design, but not necessarily sport-specific, so leave the Eagles hats at home. One we like: Topman’s grey snapback. (A note: You might hear that the bucket hat is back. We at Shoppist do not endorse this. Stick with the snapback.)

3. A bomber jacket.
This is the standout outwear silhouette for spring. Go for one that’s super-structured, or ultra-sporty (think nylon, like this one ). J.Crew’s offerings are spot-on.

 4. White sneakers.
Just as in womenswear, snow-white kicks are making a comeback. Wear them with everything from jeans to shorts, though only the very style-savvy should attempt to pair them with suits. Not sure of how trendy you want to go? Go old-school with Stan Smiths, which will arguably never go out of style. (Oh, and here’s how to clean them.)

5. Slim sweats or joggers.
Think of these as an elevated version of athletic wear. Avoid an exaggerated drop-crotch (or risk looking like Justin Bieber). Instead, choose sweats that are slim-cut, like this pair in a navy scuba fabric. Wear these on the weekends for a coolly casual, yet still stylish, look.
