As winter’s deep freeze begins to thaw, so does our affection for its trappings: puffy marshmallow coats, thick knits, snow-stomping boots. Happily, this season brings with it lighter offerings and a fresh outlook on style. Here, the very best of spring’s fashion crop, and the new ways to wear it all.

Swap sequins and frills for splashier adornments, like the supersized gems that stud this simple white shift.

Stella McCartney dress, $3,685 at Neiman Marcus, King of Prussia. Céline sandals, $1,050 at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bala Cynwyd.

Winter’s shiny-sleek leather takes a backseat to chunky, funky fringe.

Céline top, $1,250, and culottes, $1,950, both at Saks Fifth Avenue. Marlyn Schiff cuff, $44 at Skirt, Bryn Mawr. Necklace, $166 at Joan Shepp, Rittenhouse. Prada sandals, $750 at Neiman Marcus.

Forget everything you know about mixing separates. Play with lengths—a tunic over a midi skirt!—for a slinky, serpentine silhouette.

Proenza Schouler knit tunic, $1,250, and pleated foil skirt, $1,874, both at Saks Fifth Avenue. Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, $795, and Erickson Beamon ear cuff, $165, both at Joan Shepp.

It’s sharp, crisp, architectural, and anything but sweet. Forgo jewelry to let the dress shine.

Alexander McQueen dress, $1,975 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Ditch the cocktail dress for a sleek jumpsuit. Add a long pendant — spring’s best necklace — for a surprisingly sexy, devil-may-care look.

Rick Owens jumpsuit, $1,475, and Balenciaga shoes, $695, both at Joan Shepp. Marlyn Schiff cuff, $44 at Skirt. Marmol Radziner necklace, $220 at Knit Wit, Rittenhouse. A Peace Treaty earring, $98 at Third Street Habit, Old City.

Bright, Lilly Pulitzer-like flowers are expected. A moodier bloom in a buttoned-up shape is far more sophisticated. Heavy metal details (a giant zipper, perhaps?) make it cool.

Givenchy dress, $3,850 at Neiman Marcus. Pamela Love earrings, $198 at Third Street Habit.

While previous seasons nodded to mod, it’s now time to embrace the decade’s dreamy bohemia with muted colors, whisper-thin fabrics and offbeat print pairings. Keep it modern by investing in the jewelry trend of the season: one major shoulder-grazing earring.

Dries Van Noten silk top, $1,080, and pants, $745, and Brunello Cucinelli sandals, $1,265, all at Neiman Marcus. Erickson Beamon earring, $173 at Joan Shepp.

It’s voluminous, kimono-esque, and a fashion-forward alternative to the LBD. Ground the sculptural draping with chunky shoes (farewell, pin-thin stilettos!) for a winning look.

Tamar dress, $375, and Creede necklace, $175, both at NINObrand, Rittenhouse. Prada shoes, $750 at Neiman Marcus.
