We do know that you can still buy homes on the Jersey Shore for less than a million bucks, though the number of such homes seems to dwindle with each passing week.
But try finding one for under $500,000. At that price point, you will find that by and large, you’ve just about been priced off the islands.
So imagine our reaction when we saw the asking price for this Longport efficiency condo for sale.
It was something like this: “Look, a unicorn!”
Well, this isn’t a unicorn. Instead, it’s an efficiency apartment in the Ocean Bay condominium at Longport’s southern tip.

And is it ever efficient: it has a Murphy bed that folds into a closet so you can use the space for other purposes.

It also has a deep alcove in front of its window with a banquette that looks like it too could serve as a bed for one.

And it has a full kitchen — almost. There has to be a kitchen sink in there somewhere. Our guess is that it’s on the other side of the entrance to the unit, next to its bathroom.
Pool
This unit is located on the street floor of the Ocean Bay condo, which gives you easy access to its pool. You can wash your clothes in the condo complex’s coin-operated laundry.
As the listing agent for this condo says, you can’t beat its location: It’s just steps from the beach at 16th Avenue, and the borough’s tennis courts, playground, shops and restaurants are a short walk to the north.
It’s also, as the listing agent points out, “surrounded by multimillion-dollar Longport Point-area homes.”
We never imagined we would find an opportunity to buy a second home in such swanky territory for so little. And given how little you will spend to own this Longport efficiency condo for sale, do you really mind that what you’re buying is in essence a budget motel room with a pool?
