Does It Get Any More Philly Than This Reading Terminal Market Wedding?

From their carnival photo shoot to the welcome bags filled with Philly treats, Stephanie and Dan's wedding is everything we love about summer in the city.

Looking to infuse your wedding with a serious dose of fun? Look no further than Stephanie Shane and Daniel Braceland’s summer wedding. The couple hosted their playful fete at Reading Terminal Market, with a stop at the Penn’s Landing Carnival ahead of time for some colorful portraits.  See how the day unfolded in these shots capture by Sharyn Frenkel Photography.

Stephanie and Dan’s love is the result of an OKCupid match, where he kicked off their conversation with a sweet, relaxed message: Happy Tuesday, how are you? You have such a great taste in music and Chuck Taylor shoes. You enjoying this beautiful summer-like weather? –Dan. To Stephanie, this note hit on everything that was important to her. They decided to set a date at Francoluigi’s in South Philly, where they grazed on Italian food and discussed all of their favorite things. Dan was taken by her beautiful eyes and great smile, while Stephanie thought he was handsome and sweet (and also a little nervous). The night ended with Dan gifting Stephanie a flash drive filled with songs by their favorite band, O.A.R., and a gentlemanly walk to Stephanie’s car.

After dating for 16 months, Dan knew it was time to pop the question. The pair made plans to meet friends at BOK Bar for drinks ahead of a dinner reservation. Upon arrival at the bar, Stephanie realized that she had forgotten her license. Knowing what he had up his sleeve (or, really, in his pocket), Dan was initially a little freaked out, but they made it back to the bar — with Stephanie’s license in tow — just fine. A friend insisted on taking a picture of the couple with the beautiful sunset behind them. The friend also insisted on one more photo — which kind of annoyed Stephanie — but all was forgiven when she turned around to find Dan on one knee.

After an 11-month engagement, Stephanie walked down an aisle lined with cinder blocks topped with geometric shapes, air plants and candles — with her mom and dad on each side — right in the middle of Reading Terminal Market. She and Dan exchanged vows under a wooden altar adorned with simple flowers.

Reception decor included tin can vases, a macrame table runner and cafe lighting. Reading Terminal favorites DiNic’s, Molly Malloy’s and Wursthaus Schmitz  catered cocktail hour as well as the couple’s “grazing dinner.”

Dan and Stephanie shared their first dance to Adele’s “Sweetest Devotion” while guests sipped on their choice of over 30 draft beers. Dessert included a chocolate and raspberry cake from Flying Monkey Bakery, doughnuts from Beiler’s, a gourmet sundae station from Bassetts, cannolis from Termini Brothers Bakery and, in a tradition stemming from Dan’s hometown near Pittsburgh, a whole table filled with cookies baked by friends and family. The newlyweds capped off their Hawaiian honeymoon with a Phillies game in San Francisco, and currently live in Swarthmore, where she is a teacher and he is a software engineer.
