Tropical Storm Hermine Could Dampen Your Labor Day Weekend Plans

The storm is moving closer, bringing the possibility of heavy rain, strong winds and rip currents. We'll likely see its strongest effects on Saturday and Sunday.

If you have Labor Day plans this weekend, you might want to move them inside.

Tropical Storm Hermine is moving north toward the mid-Atlantic region, bringing a likelihood of strong winds and heavy rain to our area.

The storm, which is currently off the Gulf Coast of Florida, could bring heavy rain and strong winds this Saturday and Sunday. Winds could range from 39 to 73 mph, with the strongest gusts on Sunday, though impacts will remain uncertain depending on the track and strength of the storm.

If you’re at the beach this weekend, you might want to stay out of the water or at least use extra caution – Tropical Storm Hermine is expected to increase chances of rip currents. There is a moderate to high risk of rip currents for tomorrow, and that’s continuing into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
