Man Died in Morning Crash on MLK Drive

A woman and a 4-year-old girl were taken to the hospital after the head-on collision that snarled traffic this morning.

A head-on collision killed one man and sent two others to the hospital this morning on Martin Luther King Drive in Philadelphia.

The crash happened near Sweet Briar Drive at around 8:20 a.m. The man was going northbound when his car crossed over the double line and hit a Chevrolet Traverse head-on. The victim, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.

Police took a 32-year-old woman and a 4-year-old girl to the hospital. Their condition was not yet available.

The crash shut down busy MLK Drive at rush hour. It also slowed down the Schuylkill Expressway. Fox 29 reported drivers on I-76 were causing backups by pausing to look at the crash. (This is what’s known as a “gaper delay.” Meanwhile, NBC 10 reported that drivers had to jump the curb to get out of traffic on MLK Drive.
