Forget Patti Pies: William Way Center Hosting Gay Thanksgiving Weekend

If you’ve been stalking Walmart shelves waiting for a shipment of Patti LaBelle’s sweet potato pie, I have a better suggestion: Head on over to the William Way LGBT Community Center this weekend for gatherings that are surely better than trampling over people to get a big screen television set at Best Buy.

The festivities start on Thanksgiving Day itself, with the Center’s annual Thanksgiving Potluck at 1 PM. The event is free, and the only requirement is that guests bring some dish to share with other members of the community. There will be vegetarian and vegan offerings available. Interested attendees are asked to RSVP by calling 215-732-2220.

On Friday, the Center is holding their first ever Gaycoupage! event, an alternative to Black Friday shopping. Billed as a gay “arts and crafts social,” the afternoon’s festivities include games, a movie marathon, plus light refreshments. Gaycoupage! starts at 1 pm and admission is free.

Also on tap is the Center’s largest Big Queer Book Sale, running from 1 pm to 4:30 pm on both Friday and Saturday. The John Wilcox Jr. Library will be offering over 1,000 books for under $5, and hundreds of titles will be free. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Library, which has an inventory of over 14,000 books and DVDs.
