SEPTA to Announce “Change” to Market East

Is it a name change?

Will Market East still be “Market East” by the end of the week?

Metro Philly reports today that SEPTA is planning to announce a “change” to the station at 10 a.m. Thursday — this report coming just days after Technically Philly reported officials are planning to rename the station to “Jefferson Station,” in association with nearby Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

SEPTA has not confirmed that report. But whatever is being announced on Thursday seems momentous: SEPTA’s general manager Joe Casey, SEPTA board members Pat Deon and Cuyler Walker, and City Councilman Mark Squilla will participate in the announcement.

The transit agency says that 26,000 passengers pass through the station every weekday.
