The recently renamed Whosoever Metropolitan Community Church (WMCC) in West Philly is taking steps to educate folks in the region about Pennsylvania's unfortunate lack of LGBT anti-discrimination laws. In this workshop, speakers will share stories of discrimination, counterbalance those with words of encouragement from faith leaders, and then weigh in on ways we can turn this misfortune around. Speakers include WMCC Pastor and Equality Pennsylvania Faith Action Team Leader Reverend Jeffrey Jordan (pictured, above left), Equality PA Faith Organizer Ammon Ripple, and Sarah Spohn, Equality PA's Southeastern PA organizer. It’s Romeo and Juliet. But gay. And with Mummers. If you think this sounds like the plot of an episode of Family Guy, you’re wrong. It’s the show Two Street, the newest brainchild of the Philadelphia-based Tribe of Fools, the physical theater company that has won critics over with its previous Fringe festival hits Heavy Metal Dance Fag and Antihero. The troupe, which consists of Terry Brennan, Zachary Chiero, Tim Popp and Peter Smith, welcomes Peter Andrew, Isa St. Clair, and Karina Balfour to the group for the FringeArts Festival take on Shakespeare’s classic tale, updated for queer contemporary audiences. A host of Philly drag queens and artists are coming together to toast local drag legend—and self-proclaimed drag pariah—Needles Jones. The occasion aims to honor Jones' contribution to Philly's arts and drag scenes, which comprises Fringe performances, work with Hard Liquor Theater, and six years hosting Monday Night Club. But don't expect sweet sentiment. In true roasting fashion, things are going to be rude, lewd, and just plain crude—just the way Needles likes its.
