Martha Graham Cracker to Make Her Southern Debut

New York City critics — and Bill Murray — raved when Martha Graham Cracker made her Big Apple debut last year at Joe’s Pub, but that was kind of easy. New York loves its drag queens — even the ultra tall, very hairy variety. Martha likes a challenge, and that’s why she’s accepted an offer to head [way] below the Mason Dixon to put on her first-ever show in the South.

The Philly cabaret queen will head to Austin, Texas on May 23rd, thanks to a crowd-sourced campaign on Kickstarter that blew past its goal of $2,500 goal in one day. One person even bid $1,000 to receive a private, in-home concert by Ms. Cracker.

The money will pay for Martha’s transportation costs, as well as that of her production crew. They’re looking to continue the fundraising effort through April 11th, in the hopes that she can bring along other Philly performers Johnny Showcase and Rumi Kitchen.

To lend a hand to Martha and her traveling circus, you can contribute here. We’re not sure Texas is ready for what Martha will bring, but that’s what makes it fun, huh?
