The Last 30 Years of Rock n’ Roll Mean Nothing: Bon Jovi Fires Richie Sambora

CBS:

The music world is buzzing with news Richie Sambora has parted ways with Bon Jovi.

The news comes after 30 years of making music together.

According to the website RumorFix.com, Sambora was fired from his rock band and will not be returning to the group’s concert tour.

The website’s sources said Sambora wanted more money and front man Jon Bon Jovi said no to the demand.

But, but…. Bon Jovi is not Bon Jovi without Richie Sambora! Without Richie, Jon Bon Jovi is just a guy in a leather vest and wholly inappropriate Native American necklace singing about cowboys. Without Richie, we don’t spend our junior high years in the 1980s in roller rinks, singing “Livin’ on a Prayer” at the top of our lungs!

Without Richie Sambora, all that Bon Jovi talk about “Jersey” and “home” seem hollow. The last 30 years of rock and roll seem false.

Anyway, we kind of saw this coming. And April’s Jon Bon Jovi interview with Ellen, in which he said Sambora was still the band’s guitar player, now has the corporate sheen of a team owner saying that his losing coach isn’t on the hot seat—about a week before that coach is fired:

Good luck Richie. It’s like our rock parents have divorced.
